Re: 77 SD900 Darmah

It's up to you to do what you think is appropriate in returning the bike to the road but my similar age 900SS runs fine, has never been apart and still has the original wiring harness. These bikes were well made and used quality components. It is easy with a forum to get a negative impression about ...

Re: Best tyres for 1977 900 SS (original Borrani 4777 rims)

I'm happy with the Pirelli Sport Demons on my '79 SS converted to Borrani rims. Not old style tires but then I ride the bike rather than look at it.

Re: 1979 900SS For Sale

I still have it. I guess I'm not a motivated seller as I've been riding and enjoying it. It is still available though. Note that there is a mistake in the original post as it actually has a little less than 40 000 km on the odometer. US$ 22 000 seems to be a reasonable price.

Re: Clutch judder

Both twins I have owned - an 860GT and a 900SS - have done that occasionally and I just came to accept it as normal.

1979 900SS - SOLD

I've owned it since 1984 but am now considering selling: * Less than 70 000 kms on the clock; * fresh top end job including valve seals, rings, cylinders honed and new exhaust valves; * starts and runs well, regularly used but a rider's rather than a show bike; * 40 mm carbs; * Borrani rims and stai...

Alazzurra Carbs on a 900SS

What do I need to get to use clamp-mount 36mm Cagiva Alazzurra Dellortos on my SS with 40mm carbs? I'm looking for something reasonably inexpensive and fairly obtainable (if such a thing is possible).

Re: Lithium Batteries: Any Suggestions?

Your regulator is most likely shot. This is a common problem with these bikes. The good news is that replacements are easy to find and relatively inexpensive.

Re: Correct fuel lines for 1976 900 SS

As far as I know the green lines have always been used for bevel twins. My 860GT had them as did my 900SS. These lines hardened quickly in the presence of fuel so were usually changed out.

Re: Leaking Amal 930's

If it's any consolation I can't get them to stop leaking on my 1970 Triumph Bonneville either although I have managed to slow the loss. Normally the banjo fitting doesn't give much problem if assembled properly. You could check the flatness of the float bowl joint using fine sandpaper on a flat surf...

Re: No charging issue 900ss

From my experience the voltage regulator/rectifier fitted to bevel twins is troublesome so no surprise that this was the root of the problem. Thanks for the replacement reference.

Re: broken kick lever

If yours is anything like my early '79 with 40 mm carbs they will kick back when they're hot. In fact, I pretty much have to hold the throttle wide open to get mine to go after I've turned it off for a few minutes. Makes refueling a nuisance.

For what it's worth my late '78 SS with Veglia speedo doesn't have a trip meter.

I think that style indicator is almost impossible to find these days although I do have a set from an 860GT I owned years ago.

Re: Down Shift Problem

Hi Paul, If it was shifting properly before the problem started something to look at is the gearbox selector mechanism, located behind the clutch. A tired centering spring is a common issue, as is a poorly adjusted centering eccentric screw. You may first want to check that the clutch cable and actu...
