Re: 860GT drum brake rear wheel spoke question

Hi again Vince, As usual, I had a brain fade when I was saying" spoke side" and "non-spoke side"; a correctly functional brain would have said "sprocket side" and "non-sprocket side". Thanks again for enlightening me on the spoke insertion alternating pattern per your pic. That helped a lot. I will ...

Re: 860GT drum brake rear wheel spoke question

Good point.

Thinking back, I have never seen spokes touching, even on classic cars with spoked wheels. Hopefully the young bloke learned the error of his ways.
Too bad that it had to be at your expense.

Richard

Re: 860GT drum brake rear wheel spoke question

Ahh; now I get it. That pic helps a bunch. I finally see what you mean about the inside/outside alternation of the spokes. I'll play around with my spokes on the hub, and try to see where 85 degrees works better than 90 degrees; that's still the part I am seeking the answer for. Thanks kindly, Vince...

Re: 860GT drum brake rear wheel spoke question

Sorry Vince,

When you say inside or outside, it does not register; as I said in my original post, I used "spoke side" or "non-spoke side" with the hope of clarification.
I will continue to seek clarification, and I thank you for your interest.
Best Regards,
Richard

860GT drum brake rear wheel spoke question

The rear wheel has 20 of each of two slightly different spokes: 20 at a bend angle of 85 degrees, and 20 at a bend angle of 90 degrees. This is a subtle difference, and I am trying to figure out which angle applies to which side of the wheel (for explanation purposes, say either "sprocket side" or n...

Re: 860GT rear wheel hub mystery piece

Hi Duca,

I'm sorry, but I do not understand your explanation as to the grease and the ring.
Can you please clarify for this old man?
Thanks in advance.

Richard

860GT rear wheel hub mystery piece

I know that I am likely missing a previous post, but have looked through the ones here, and do not see a match for my question: Sitting in between the bearings in the wheel hub (not the sprocket hub...) is the piece shown in the link below: https://www.flickr.com/photos/124760992@N02/45711138344/in/...

Re: 860GT rear drum brake wheel hub bearing caps

Thanks kindly, Craig, As usual you are a fount of meritorious wisdom. I took heed of the relative lack of usefulness of said "washers" in the shadow of sealed bearing replacements, and could see no reason for them, thus I trimmed a notch into them with my trusty Dremel to weaken their walls, tapped ...

Re: Metal Rescue for de-rusting 860GT tank

That's a dilemma for me, since my bike will not be ready to ride for quite some time, and the tank will be off the bike. It's a bit heavy to lug on and off the bike when full of fuel, so I guess that I will wait for a more opportune time, closer to re-launching the bike onto the road before de-rusti...

Re: Metal Rescue for de-rusting 860GT tank

Thanks, Steve. Second question: Then, do you coat the inside of the tank with a rust preventive, as for example KBS brand sealer? I see a lot of posts on that, both positive and negative, but do see the merit in the process, as it should prevent a recurrence of the rust. Regards, and Happy holidays,...

860GT rear drum brake wheel hub bearing caps

I really need help on this dilemma, and apologize if it has been covered in a previous post that I missed: trying to remove "caps" on rear wheel hub bearings, per photos in the following Flickr link: https://www.flickr.com/photos/124760992@N02/albums/72157703339475701 The caps are not obvious to me ...

Metal Rescue for de-rusting 860GT tank

To the League of Fine Gentlemen: Like most old bikes, my 1975 860GT requires getting rid of the rust that has accrued in the tank. I have read several online clips (none here that I have seen, and I have searched here...) touting the positive aspects of the product, "Metal Rescue", its absence of ac...
