Re: LED sealed beam 7" Conversion for 860GT

Another question for those who have the H4 halogen unit: How is the H4 headlamp unit kept in proper rotational orientation so that the beam is aimed correctly? On my U.S. sealed beam unit, the lamp has three raised bosses that fit into the inner mounting ring, and since the three bosses are not equa...

Kara, did your bike have the U.S. sealed beam headlamp originally, or the H4 halogen lanp?

Now looking for two items, which are part of the U.S. headlight assembly, but different from the Euro version : 1. 0960.38.295 Pin, of which two are used to hold the headlamp assembly in the lock ring 2. 0960.38.278 Inner ring ...

Re: 1975 860GT Looking for pin made of unobtainium

Sadly, there is only about 3 mm open space at the top pinhole, and 2 mm at the bottom pinhole, which is right adjacent to the shell mounting screw.

As for the chrome rings, I am not sure what you mean. My chrome headlamp shell is beautiful, having been rechromed.

Thanks anyway.

1975 860GT Looking for pin made of unobtainium

Hi all, The headlight mounts on two pins (P/N 0968.668.296) in the shell, and can move on said pins for adjustment. I have one pin whose groove is "hogged out", and makes it about impossible to get the clip to stay on. Numerous searches for a replacement have produced no fruit (including B...

Re: LED sealed beam 7" Conversion for 860GT

Hi Kara, Can you provide the url for vintage car? I looked for such a business with several permutations of the name, but got nuthin'. Thanks in advance. BTW, on my 1975 860GT, engine # 851539, in addition to refitting the dash lamps to LEDs from Steve, I have converted my turn and tail/brake lights...

Re: 1975 860GT : Two questions

Hi Craig, As for the install of the clip type master link, the solution was staring me in the face. Steve reminded me that the Motul chain breaker and riveting tool, MP-08-8058, (of which I bought one...) can be used to press the link onto the pins. It has two press plates, one for each side, giving...

Re: 1975 860GT : Two questions

Thanks kindly, Craig, The info really helps, and gives me needed assurance that my curiosity in these areas is not completely unfounded. I shall follow recommendations in both areas. My last experience before this with master links was on my 1969 Norton Commando in 1974 (loved that bike, even with t...

1975 860GT : Two questions

Hi all, I'm installing new chain and sprockets, and, since I am using new parts from Steve, and have no experience in the "feel" of the new parts' installation, I respectfully need help on these two things: 1. New 530 o ring chain with clip type master link. The closing side of the master ...

Re: New ignition system: need advice!

Great! There are "mystiques" surrounding things electrical: As a computer techie, I was working on an old machine whose wires were connected in taper pin "buggies", they frequently fell out for no apparent reason. One seasoned veteran said that "it was the solenoid action of...

Re: 1975 860GT side cover screw search

Thanks kindly. I don't want you to waste too much of your time on this. I am quite a ways away from reaching the point of needing these screws; I just like to have planned ahead, so that when I reach a task, I don't have to wait very long for all of the pieces. I am looking at some sources here, now...

Wow! Thanks a bunch for the links. I shall dig into them and see what I can find that might work. What I saw at one place were a bit rough, but that was only the middle link that you sent. Thanks much, for the offer. I may still want to work that out with you; do you have a PayPal account? Know abou...

Re: New ignition system: need advice!

Yowza! Yeah, if you swapped out the box and the problem persists, that leaves the pickups, coils, and wiring. What brand of coils are you using? Still a bit curious, as Rick mentioned, about the heat, but if it runs fine once started, who knows? I would have thought that the box would be the most li...

Re: 1975 860GT side cover screw search

Many thanks for the info. In looking at the DIN603 bolts, the square faces would have to be removed to allow the bolt to turn, once a slot was cut into the head or if washers were used to stand the facets outside the side cover hole, it would protrude quite a bit, unless I am missing something. If y...
