Re: Looking for 750GT Turn Signal Switch

Thanks for the Guzzino switch info. I am only interested in finding a replacement turn signal switch that appears identical to the stock Aprilia switch. I have replaced the stock Aprilia switches with an aftermarket switch for the horn, headlight dip switch and turn signals. It works fine but I want...

Grommet for alternator case

Looks like Steve has that part in the Bevel Heaven store - although it looks slightly different than mine does, it should do the job

Completed test ride of about 30 miles

I completed a test ride of about a 30 mile loop with lights on and plenty of stop and go and idling. Only issue was very slight oil leak around the case plugs where the stator wires exit the case. The rubber o-ring sort of thing (called a rubber) around the cable sheathing had cracked. Note that the...

FYI Part numbers for Aprilia switches

I looked up the part numbers for the Aprilia switches. They are: hi/lo beam/horn 0795.38.215 turn signal/kill 0795.38.210 I have both my switches off the bike and have replaced them with a functional aftermarket combined switch that works fine, but want to return the bike to stock appearance. I will...

Re: Looking for 750GT Turn Signal Switch

The switch I am looking for is an Aprilia switch very similar to the one Steve sells for the left handlebar. However, it is not quite the same. It is rare because it came only on early US models. It has a three position lever, L, R and center(no connection) and a "kill button" which did no...

Looking for 750GT Turn Signal Switch

My 1973 US model 750GT was purchased new by my brother and we have been pretty careful to maintain all the stock parts for all these years. The original turn signals were removed very early in life and I still have them in a box, along with the original air filters and a few other items that I upgra...

Re: 73 GT Alternator replacement options

Thanks for the comments Ducadini. Yes, the original alternator was very weak. I discovered the wire insulation was severely cracked on the yellow wires as they exited the engine case and also one of the wires near the regulator. I am surprised the old alternator was working at all. This US model 197...

Completed the install

Finally received the MDINA ITALIA alternator - it was misdirected by US Postal Service to Florida and took 4 days extra. Should get points for mileage. Installed today and it works well. Accidentally discharged battery to zero V. a couple of days earlier by leaving key on and could not get it to cha...

AMAL 930 Carbs Getting Out of Tune

My 1973 750GT had Mikuni carbs on it for many years. I decided to reinstall the original AMAL carbs a couple of years ago to make the bike as original as possible. At that time, I updated the carbs with new needles, jets, filters and float valves. The bike would run quite well for a day or two, then...

Re: 73 GT Alternator replacement options

Yes, I had investigated the ST2 rotor option but they are hard to find and I have had some bad luck recently buying used Ducati parts off the internet. I had also heard that ST-2 alternator reliability was an issue, although I cannot imagine that a rotor by itself could be come unreliable, other tha...

Re: 73 GT Alternator replacement options

Although I have a background in basic electronics and understand alternators and different types of rectifiers, I have decided not to modify my existing stator and instead to try the simplest replacement alternator that is still uses a center tap stator. I ordered the Mdina Italia replacement rotor ...

73 GT Alternator replacement options

My 1973 750 GT has the original 150W alternator and is getting very tired. When I added the Dyna electronic ignition, it increased the draw at low RPM's as you would expect. I have to recharge my battery after every ride. Does anyone have recent experience with alternator replacement options? Has an...

Re: Smiths Instrument Rebuild

By the way, I took a short ride and the needles no longer waver. Also, the speedometer appears to be accurate. Previously, before the rebuild, it was reading 15 to 25 mph too high. I told friends I had the first 150mph 750GT before I had the speedo recalibrated.

Re: Smiths Instrument Rebuild

The cost is $170 per unit. Not cheap, but they really do a nice job. The face, glass and everything look almost brand new but somehow retain the period look for 40 year-old instruments.

Smiths Instrument Rebuild

I just received my 1973 750GT instruments back from Nisonger, located in Mamaroneck, NY. Nisonger has been in this business since 1949! -*!^- I had them refurbish the Smiths speedometer and tachometer, which were previously working, but very tired looking. They also were out of calibration and the n...
