Re: ‘74 750 GT Restoration in Seattle

Can't say as that I did know it, though the only Bevel guys I actually know are up here in BC, mostly Square Case SS's of one sort or another. Though there are 203 other GT's I know of in the area, mine seems to be the only one that gets ridden much. Actually just got back from a little scoot to my ...

Re: ‘74 750 GT Restoration in Seattle

Amen to renewing or even improving the original electrics. An ST2 Stator / rotor and MOSFET regulator / rectifier is a good thing and ditching the points for a Dyna 'S' is as well. I don't know anything about the later handlebar switches, but if they're original 40+ YO, safe to say they would certai...

Just out of curiosity, was it in Seattle when you found it?

Re: Wanted to purchase RT450

https://vancouver.craigslist.ca/rds/mcy/d/1971-ducati-t-450-desmo/6569136184.html $6,900 CDN = ~ $5,474 US Seems kinda strong, but maybe you could beat him down a bit. Being a "competition" bike it might not have a title which would complicate import into the US. https://images.craigslist.org/00o0o_...

Re: 750 GT 4-Hole Solid-Style Front Disc

The measured O.D. is between 274 & 275mm This is the disc I removed from the bike as I got it as a rolling basket case in 2014. I'm led to believe it was last running before it threw the chain through the engine case in the early 90's. It seems likely that this is the disc that it came with as deliv...

Re: 750GT Rolling Basket Challange

A handy little device showed up at the shop - a digital hanging scale. We immediately started weighing various bikes. The 750 GT came in at 472 lb. with full fuel, oil & tool kit. Minus 27 lb. fuel (4.5 US Gal.) & tool kit = 442 lb. Minus 9 lb. oil = ~ 433 lb. dry weight. A stock 1974 T150 Trident n...

Re: Getting back to roots...

Heh Bruce, Yes indeed, the road across the Monashee Pass that you refer to is pretty nice (Vernon > Needles ferry . Nakusp), though I've become a bit of a granny on that one since there seems to have been a rash of people center-punching deer on it over the last few years. Oddly on my #1 road - the ...

Re: Getting back to roots...

Shane, Yep, I know Wolfgang very well. I got a lot of stuff from him for Guzzis and the GT. Been to Nakusp many times (the road between Kaslo & New Denver is the best road in BC IMOH). I plan to make the Rocky Mountain Motogiro this Sept. 15-17, or at least the Sat. 'endurance run" part on either my...

Re: Getting back to roots...

Heh Shane, Well, looks like a comparatively straight-forward project unlike the 750 GT basket that I started with. The saga on that one is here: http://forum.bevelheaven.com/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=4543 As to originality, as you can see I chose a "season to taste" approach since I planned to ride it a ...

Re: 3 or 5 ohm coils

http://www.ohmslawcalculator.com/ohms-law-calculator You can see plugging in 14V & 3 or 5 ohms, that with the lower resistance you get higher current (amps) / power (watts) values than with higher resistance. That must be absorbed, or a large part of it anyway, buy the coil itself and it is - mostly...

Re: 73 GT Alternator replacement options

I installed an Electrex ST2 ~400W stator with rare earth rotor & their regulator about 4 years ago when I restored my GT. The regulator failed within months (internal failure causing parasitic load that would drain the battery) & was replaced with a MOSFET type unit from Rick's Moto Electrics. About...

Re: Hello from New Mexico, 1973 750GT

Heh Tom, These trim strips were missing on my '73 750 GT. Actually, the whole seat was missing. The pan and cover were easy to get, but I scoured the planet looking for the trim stips, but without success. There was some kind of rumor that there was a VW Beetle trim piece that was perfect, but I cou...
