Re: what to use to treat painted bodywork to keep original patina
I'd go over it with a combination cutter & polish, then wax over it liberally. You'll be surprised how much of the silver paint look returns and the wax over protects it.

Re: Waking up a Darmah
Pulling the heads is really not difficult at all. By all means consult the service manual and don't rely on me alone, I hope somebody with more experience chimes in with a second opinion. On the Darmah after removing plugs, carbs, manifolds and exhaust (from memory here, it's been a long time since ...

Re: Waking up a Darmah
I dunno what Kroil is, but I'll assume it's like Penetrene, the idea being to free the pistons & rings in case they have stuck in a corroded bore, is that right? If yours is a 78 model then surely it has a kick starter which would be easy enough to turn the motor with. Still, if you suspect corr...

Re: Waking up a Darmah
I'm no expert on reviving engines that sat for a long time but if it were mine and it sat for 15 years without being regularly turned over - I'd dump the old oil and put some fresh stuff in there, turn it over lots and lots to get the oil circulated thoroughly with the plugs out, then check for comp...

Re: '78 900ss wheels - question.
It's 30 years since I did this on my 79 Darmah, but it ended up with '77 or '78 SS hubs and Akront rims - can't recall what spacers I needed but I don't recall any great hassle...i.e. no problem fitting them in.

Re: stuck cylinder head nuts
Something else I've had success with is the combination of the oxy torch on a nut followed immediately by spraying the stud with 'nut freeze' or whatever that spray is called. It's a freeze spray combined with a penetrating lube, you aim that at the stud to cool it whilst the nut is still hot but it...

Re: PHF32A vs PHF32C
Thanks Steve, I'll have a closer look at that bit of the carbs. These came off an SS but that will be the same as the SD.

Re: PHF32A vs PHF32C
Thanks for trying to answer my question Steve, but both PHF32A and PHF32C types that I'm referring to have the female clamp type fitting (i.e. fitting type B).

PHF32A vs PHF32C
Can anybody tell me the difference between the PHF32A type and PHF32C type carby bodies? I don't see any difference visually apart from the internal parts such as jet sizes, slides etc. I know they put the PHF32C on some later 900SS models, so the reason I ask is if I put the same jets, slides needl...

Re: Converting Right to Left PHM40
Before I start drilling and tapping to convert an AD to AS, does anybody out there have a PHM40AS (tickler type) they might let go in exchange for a PHM40AD plus cash?

For Sale - 40mm manifold for 450 racer
Here's an inlet manifold for (I think) a Ducati 450 single race bike - that's what I was told it came from anyhow - inlet stud spacing is 52mm, inlet diameter 30mm at head, 40mm at carb. The angle looks right for a Ducati single that I used to have. $30 plus postage (I'm in Australia). http://users....

Re: Intake Port alignment
Thanks for the reply spagjet - interesting your Darmah has a little step there too. I'm gonna just clean the step out of the way on that front cylinder and not get too far into the porting of this thing right now, so long as the front cylinder is firing clean and strong up and down the rev range I'l...
