Re: Smoking under acceleration - valve guides.

I know this is an old thread, but my Darmah is suffering from the same problem of smoking, but only on the front cylinder. All I want to know is,after the engineering firm did the work, did that cure the problem? I will probably go down the same route I also have a high pressure oil pump, and the bike i...

Modification of Closing rockers,Darmah

I have an early Darmah,I have recently renewed the valve guides in the head. The guides I have used take the latest green valve stem seals. The original guides had the internal o-ring seals, which I know have been written about alot on this forum,The problem I have ,I need to know the dimensions to mac...

Re: '78 darmah sd - what's this noise?

Have you tried pulling the clutch in on tick over, does the noise change? The tick over is bad on your bike, the carbs need a good balance. Are the clutch plates correctly assembled, take note of the bent tangs? Have you checked the tappet clearances ? It could be top end still ,rockers gone soft and t...

Not selecting 4th gear

Sometimes shifting gear from 5th gear to 4th I find a neutral. This does not happen all the time and only shifting down.My engine is a Bosch bottom end with a Japanese type selector. I suspect its a spring that needs replacing.Anyone have any ideas or experience of this?

Re: Why Are Modern Motorcycles so UGLY??

Ducati bevels were born from one man's vision. What we have now is team efforts, backed by C.A.D.(computer,aided,design)and human input is a side line. Technilogical advancements in plastics also help to these bewildering looking bikes, that look half finished, the rear ends are a good example. Im stic...

Re: New ignition system: need advice!

Ashley,I would be tempted to change the coils, but first check the valve clearances. It only comes to mind with the tempreture issue,on starting hot.

Re: New ignition system: need advice!

Many thanks for your in depth help, in fact your original write up , gave me the push to to get the kit. My bike is a GTS 900,with a Bosch crank set up. The only conflicting thing I find is the green LED is lighting up on the front cylinder.I have all the test wires going to the correct terminals. G...

Re: New ignition system: need advice!

I see alot has been written about the sasche ignition being set up. I need to share my experience so far of setting up. When I first installed it,the bike fired up first time ,nice even tick over. The following week the engine would not start at all, finally got it to go,by changing the plugs and cap...

Re: Pops out of 4th gear

Sounds like its time to check the internal gear box, drive dogs probably rounded off and selector fork worn. I had the same problem years ago on a GTS,you can mess around with the selector box and keep blaming that. But taking a corner at speed and losing drive, does nothing for confidence.Best also to...

Re: Darmah Front cylinder running rich

Yes,I would tend to agree with the foreman.Get out there, and give it a shake down, you could have a worn exhaust valve guide or the guide seal is not happy. Go for a ride, stop the engine, leave it for a while(fuel stop say),and fire the engine and look for smoke from the right hand side. If you have t...

Re: Advice on engine re-install, 860GT

Hello, you are at an advantage with the casings off and with the front and rear cylinders/heads fitted. I would lift the rear of the engine and engage the bottom rear bolt ,and use that as a pivot point and fit the other 2 bolts. That I would find the easiest way. A jack will not hurt the casings, use ...
