Re: Clutch Grabs Violently on Fresh Engine
So, it appears that the clutch basket that was installed in the rebuild is not the same as the original (which was cracked). The new basket is slightly shorter and, upon inspection, only 7 clutch plain and lined plates installed. The special driven lined plate, with teeth bent outwards, is also not ...

Re: Clutch Grabs Violently on Fresh Engine
All very good suggestions. I spoke with Guy Martin on Monday and told me the clutch is probably sticking from sitting all winter. He did say that he test rode the bike extensively before it was shipped back to me and, while the clutch is a bit more aggressive, he had no difficulty negotiating stop-a...

Re: Clutch Grabs Violently on Fresh Engine
This is normal behaviour for a competition clutch? There's nothing on Steve's site that says this is "Not for Street Use": https://store.bevelheaven.com/Engine-Related/SURFLEX-ALLOY-Clutch-Kit-Springs-Friction-Plates-860/900-Ducati-Squarecase/ I assumed the "competition" part ref...

Clutch Grabs Violently on Fresh Engine
Rolled the bike out today for the 1st time after a fresh engine rebuild (thanks to Guy Martin of MBP). Once I got it started, I put it in 1st gear and slowly let out the clutch lever while rolling on the throttle. However, once the clutch handlebar lever was almost fully out, the clutch engaged viol...

Re: Mille S2: Paint frame with homologation plate installed?
Thanks for the tip.
I reside in Canada so I'll have to find a competent shop here in Southern Ontario. I'm glad that you think a skilled painter can
work around these "obstacles". I always thought I would have to strip the frame completely bare before painting.
Cheers,

Mille S2: Paint frame with homologation plate installed?
Reproduction homologation plates are not available for my 1985 Mille S2. I'm in the early stages of a restoration and am wondering if anyone has had the experience of painting a frame with the homologation plate still installed on the bike? For that matter, the same question applies to the Nieman fo...

Re: Clutch Basket Bearing Recommendations? 860GT
Another thought ... perhaps I should just buy new springs (the right length, this time) to eliminate any possibility of uneven spring strength? Were these the springs you used when you discovered that you have the wrong length? 048016550 kit fits 450 singles & 860/900 twins, standard springs @ 2...

Re: Clutch Basket Bearing Recommendations? 860GT
The clutch did free up when I kicked it over a few times when it was on the bike stand. So, I was confident it would be fine once I got it back on the ground. But when I tried rolling it on the floor or turning the wheel by hand, the clutch was still engaged. I re-read the "FAQ: clutch pushrod ...

Re: Clutch Basket Bearing Recommendations? 860GT
So, I appear to be at a dead end. After reinstalling the original clutch springs and pressure plate, along with countless adjustments of the clutch cable at the handlebar and at the engine, as well as the ball & rod nut/screw, I can't seem to get the clutch to release when in gear??? When I enga...

MHR/S2 Mille Turn Indicators
I'm in search of a replacement left rear indicator as the housing on mine has snapped. While I search for replacements, has anyone had success in repairing plastic? This might be my only option to keep the bike original.

I'm also looking for a Left Hand Rear Indicator for my S2 Mille. I've tried all the usual vendors. New or used.

Re: Clutch Basket Bearing Recommendations? 860GT
Yes, I'm with you. I'm leaving the Brancato lever in place as the clutch action is noticeably lighter now that the original (non-binding) springs are back. Question: How much torque is recommended on the screws holding the clutch springs in? Now, I'm trying to get all the slack out of the cable so t...

Re: Clutch Basket Bearing Recommendations? 860GT
Upon further examination, it appeared that 3 of the clutch springs and spring cups were binding against the HD pressure plate. The Gowanloch HD pressure plate is just the slightest bit offset. No matter where I rotate the pressure plate, I cannot get it to perfectly line up against the screw bosses ...
