'80 900SS for sale
For Sale I have finally decided to put my beloved 900SS bevel up for sale. At one point I thought that it would be a ‘keeper’ for many years to come, but neither my spine nor my shoulders can cope with the riding position any more. I will be really sad to see her go. The details: Black and Gold 900S...

22
Having owned by '80 900SS for nearly 13 years, I noticed for the first time today that by the base of the oil filter housing there is a number 22 stamped. (I rebuilt it as well......)
Anybody know why it's there?
Cheers

Re: 74 750 GT 38mm Marzocchi forks
Got these in my '80 900SS - leave 'em in, as I found that without them, the front end takes on the feel of over-cooked pasta!!! :-D According to Steve, they are meant to be there - another poster suggested using suitably-sized coins to 'fine tune' the pre-load. I don't think I'm good enough to notic...

Re: Carb balancing question
I think I know what the problem was....... Got home from a ride the other day and it was popping like a beauty on the over run on the front cylinder. It turned out I was lucky to get home at all - front plug had completely stripped its thread. Considering I was red lining it earlier in the day, it's...

Re: Carb balancing question
Thanks Zanetti, I can actually get a really nice idle at about 1100 - 1200 rpm, the only little mystery was the fact that small adjustments, particularly of the air screw, seemed to to have little effect. It would be great to get that finly tuned response I'm after - I'll give the air screw another ...

Re: Carb balancing question
Sorry - late '80, PHM's
Would it be a good idea to install a 90 deg elbow to the rear carb to allow more reliable routing of the cable?
Hugh

Re: Carb balancing question
Thanks Steve, I gave them the once-over last winter, stripping everything and cleaning except for the accelerator pumps, so they are probably reasonably OK, but probably not race-ready! What are the 'standard' atomiser and needles that people generally use? I only use the bike for spirited days out,...

Carb balancing question
I decided to re-balance the carbs again this weekend (900SS) as I hadn't done it for a while (how often should you do it anyway?) Following Steve's advice, I found that the response when adjusting the cable adjusters was very sluggish. The cables are fairly new and are well-routed, but I just felt t...

Re: head removal
Remembering a demonstration at school, where a brass ball was only able to pass through a brass hoop once the hoop had been heated - make sure you heat the head rather than the exhaust nut, as this will only make it tighter (does that make sense? - i.e. heat will expand the nut - not what you want) ...

Re: Vague handling
Times is hard here in Wales - sheep keep disappearing from the fields and mysteriously ending up in the oven! 'Not expensive' is all relative, and MOT, road tax and insurance for more than 1 household vehicle have all conspired to arrive this month :( But less of my moaning - fear not - they're on m...

Re: Vague handling
Ha ha ! But what you I guess don't realize is that you have already received one from me when I designed the fork spring kit and made them available to Ducati, laverda etc owners several years ago - you just haven't taken advantage of it yet. :) It would really enhance Transatlantic relationships.....
