The enameled wire looks ok (newly rewound) it's the rubber covered wire that passes through the oil and out through the gland, that is cactus. It seems incredible that the hard part of the job is done and then they simply re-attach the old part back onto the newly rewound part.... When I asked WTF? ...

So I am not the only one who gets unsatisfactory service there. I am going to attempt the repair myself. The one from my GTS is well cracked, the whole motor looks like it got real hot at least once. The crack is in a position that renders it a [ desperation only] reweld repair. Hello I am having trouble with sourcing a rear head for my GTS 860 project. I got ripped off already[OK if I looked harder and asked more questions prior to paying...]. Prefer one not cracked but willing to look at what you can offer. I am in Australia.

I purchased a re-manufactured/upgraded alternator for my 1977 GTS from NSW- Australia-, the vendor has had the alternator rewound ,but re- used the original wire harness. I will investigate

I figure the best action is to bolt the barrel up to the crankcase and remeasure. I will need to make up a ring to act in place of the head and see what happens
