Re: Veglia Speedo Question
Yup been there too, My veglia is I a GT panel would have been easier in a GTS cup, I pushed the speedo out of the panel as much as possible and then prized off the chrome bezel(its been off and on a couple of times) and glass then it was possible to grip the reset shaft with long nosed pliers, I may...

Re: Dry clutch oil seal
I concur with the last post, I have never had to deal with Mille dry clutches but the torque converter seal in my Mini caused me problems several times until I made a tool to install the seal squarely into the cover, large diameter seals seem to be particularly tricky

Re: 860GTS into Darmah
I put a GTS engine into a Darmah frame and it worked out well, biggest change was the bracket for the starter solenoid but thats just basic cutting, drilling and welding. Its amazing nobody has picked the wrong engine until I point it out, I did fit Darmah cam blocks to help the illusion. The Darmah...

Re: Clutch Grabs Violently on Fresh Engine
Sorry to hear of your problem but I also have similar problems with the Surflex upgrade kit, I grabs badly when cold improves after a few kilometers and is normal once the engine is at normal working temp BUT then it slips when giving the motor a handful at 4000+ rpm, my other two bikes have stock c...

Re: 6 dogs walk into a bar, 3 short and 3 tall.
I have to agree, I thought when I found a 3 dog cluster in my Darmah thought I had struck gold because I had heard it was a better "box than the 6, I does change very smoothly at speed better than a 6 but riding around town it is clunkie and difficult to ride smoothly. The change is put down to...

Re: Overweight Wiseco 87mm Pistons
Yes, the earlier type were also available in other sizes too, I have a set of 88 mm Wiseco pistons in my Darmah, which I also "de-crowned" The pistons lost 20 gm in machining from 378 gm to 358 gm, the stock AE weigh 364. I think the modern Wisecos are a bit strange, I suspect they are des...

Re: Overweight Wiseco 87mm Pistons
I love your work, does not look like a Wiseco anymore, attached a photo showing the latest Wiseco on the left with the old style Wiseco (1990s) and an original fitment AE. I found the middle one too high a C.R. for road work so I "de-crowned" it in the lathe basically took the bump (5 mm) ...

Re: Clutch Basket Bearing Recommendations? 860GT
Stop! Sorry I made a mistake, I got the clutch plates from Italspares, Ian Gowanlochs business, Pt No S1197B, I bought them 25-Jan-2013 Ian does not run a website only email, iangowanloch@bigpond.com may not answer straight away. cost $144 Au. I bought my GT in 1985 as a basket case and rebuilt it, ...

Re: Clutch Basket Bearing Recommendations? 860GT
You are gonna hate this, I too have an early 860GT with the skinny clutch, the bike has done a lot of miles(90000+) and the clutch was very worn, I did manage to buy a good centre (I suspect you could turn a GTS one down if you wanted) as you might expect the splines on the friction plates were VERY...

Re: Clutch Basket Bearing Recommendations? 860GT
Just to show being ignorant does not prevent one from voicing an opinion, Always a little puzzled at Ducati's constant fiddling with 860/900 clutches, I would use C3 like the old ones, the fit in the drum will be tight hence the need for clearance. A press is good if available but a suitable hammer ...

Re: darmah side covers
I have to agree about mounting bits being mis-aligned on Darmah frames, I found cover screws that would not fit if the pegs were in the grommets the two bottom female thread plates were not in the same position, also found the two thready bosses that the front seat pan screws into were not at the sa...

Re: recommendations for battery for 900S2?
I had similar problems with my Darmah and resolved it when I found mis-alinment in the motor bearing bushes causing a serious drag on the starter motor shaft, did some bodging with the cover bushing and its all good now.

Re: Ducati Elettronica ignition trigger '72-'74 singles
The singles use the same red transducer box as the bevel twins? I assume there are two trigger coils, a static for starting and a full advance. I unpicked a twin stator and this is what I got, retard trigger coil 652 turns 0.15mm wire 18.8 ohms, advance coil 330 turns 8.8 ohms, The charge pump coils...

Re: what does it sound like when the sprag bearing goes?
Hi, I believe that Millies have a different starter motor to the earlier bevel twins, on their minareli motors at the non drive end is what I can only describe as a small brake, this causes a drag on the motor shaft when the motor is not energised causing a torque reversal which helps to disengage t...

Re: smiths tacho
The question was on a tacho not a speedo, yes tacho should work assuming the direction of rotation is the same, smiths and veglia tachos use a 2:1 gearbox in the cylinder head which is driven off the camshaft which is driven at 1/2 engine speed therefore 2X2 = 4 (4:1) drive to the tacho is 1/4 crank...
