Scary Scarabs

Anybody know what the thread form is for the Scarab MC banjo fitting? It's the small one (7.5 mm diameter, possibly BSP) underneath. I'm trying to find a suitable banjo bolt, preferably double length but none of the usual suspects has one, so I might have to get one made. I do have one that fits but...

Re: Advice For Kickshaft Seal Replacement

Happy to confirm your solution! Yes, spring side of seal faces towards the oil source. Another tip, put a suitably sized o ring between the two seals, i.e inner (old) seal, o ring, new seal. My 900ss has an original, old school flapper valve on the breather and does not leak from the KS shaft, no id...

Re: Advice For Kickshaft Seal Replacement

S.O.P. for this seal is to whack another one in on top of it, I did this on my GTS many years ago and it worked. It is unlikely that the seal is fully home on it's shoulder and gentle tapping with a suitable hollow drift should move it in enough to make room for the new one. If that fails then a pos...

Re: Hello Everybody out there

Can't resist re-joining this eighties Ducati nostalgia fest, the London DOC meetings at the Mawson Arms have a lot to answer for. My girlfriend, now wife of 37 years, had temporary digs in Chiswick Maternity Hospital, 50 yards from the pub. Don't ask... Actually do, the hospital was no longer used a...

Paddy,
I can't seem to either receive or send PMs, don't know why, my message just sits in the outbox. Anyway try my email z.zawada (at)* msz.com.pl

Re: Lockheed caliper interchangeability

I note that there was no response to your question so here goes, I have no direct experience of fitting AP Lockheed calipers to Ducatis but have worked a lot with Lockheed calipers on various race bikes and will soon be looking for a pair for my '74 greenframe, the original scarabs are nasty. I thin...

Re: Hello Everybody out there

Paddy, Gentlemen, I can't believe I missed this thread, your story and the various responses read like my own early Ducati history. I was a regular visitor to Oxford Motorcycle Engineers, attempting to sell ad. space on Bike magazine and remember Ed Reid warmly, so we probably met all those years ag...

multiple 900ss tank issues

Hi Everybody, there's 30cm of snow outside so I'm in the garage... My '75 900ss has it's original glass-fibre tank, recently beautifully re-painted etc. I've just spent the last several days acting out my dentist/gynae fantasies trying to clean up, repair and re-coat the inside of the tank through t...

Re: Advice Required on Fitting New Taper Roller Head Bearing

Congrats Blacklightning, its great when a pile of bits starts to resemble a motorcycle. A quick comment on Craig's/Steve Battison's technique, great to find someone doing things 'properly' , I don't bother with road bikes, particularly old ones, but stuff for the track is another story. I usually us...

Re: Advice Required on Fitting New Taper Roller Head Bearing

Hi, I did this recently on my 900ss, most people just slip a bit of tube over the steering stem and drift the inner race into position. If you want to be extra careful then do exactly as you suggest, stick the stem in the freezer and heat up the race, then it will just fall on with a satisfying clun...

Re: '75 900ss screen trim question

Thanks for the compliment and pointing out a few details. I re-routed the front carb. fuel line when I used to ride the bike all day, and every day, a couple of decades ago! It made it much easier to drain the front float bowl, a very regular task when it was raining, so it was a conscious decision ...
