Re: Valve guide choice

Hi rkj40. Just a clarification regarding the Lacey valve guides, he stocks three different diameters not lengths. This is to compensate for worn valve guide bores in the cylinder head. And yes, I have noticed the absence of valve spring rockers, mine have just gone off to Joy Engineering to be refur...

860 gts cams & followers.

Hi all. I'm making a small start on rebuilding my GTS. Both cam shafts appear worn, there are ridges on the lobe which can be felt with my fingernail. https://www.flickr.com/photos/900gts/38940335205/in/dateposted/ https://www.flickr.com/photos/900gts/39839106951/in/dateposted/ Is there anywhere tha...

Re: Missing hydraulic bump stop

Hi Craig
I spoke to Keith Nairn today & he has a spare pair of top hat bushes. Very helpful & knowlegable, thank you for suggesting him.
Thank you

Re: Missing hydraulic bump stop

Hi Craig. I thought it was weird as well but the forks were in one piece & had obviously been used in that condition. A friend bought a container of rotary spares from the factory about 15 (?) years ago, kept all the Norton specific items & sold the generic brakes, suspension, etc. I believe...

Re: Missing hydraulic bump stop

Hi Craig.
It's number 39. Those are pretty much the forks I have, but rumor has it mine originally came off a Norton rotary so I couln't be too sure of their vintage.

Missing hydraulic bump stop

I'm refurbishing a set of 1980's 38mm Marzocci forks; unfortunately both legs are missing the hydraulic bump stops, also described as top hat bush. Does anyone know where I could buy a pair? Alternatively, could somebody give me the dimensions & material so that I could machine a pair up. Thanks....

DIOC

When it was started his name on the news letter was Joel Eliel but in issue 36 he said `I am using my full name rather than my pen name, call me Joel Eliel Gonzalez`. Anyway, just out of curiosity, is he still involved with Ducatis & does the DIOC still exist?

DIOC

I`ve been reading, with a lot of pleasure & intrest, the DIOC magazines. I wondered what had happened to it, & its creator Joel Gonzalez?

Hi, I think that it can go back together as is & if it leaks I will sort out the problem then. Unfortunately I never saw it running even though my brother & I shared a house; I worked nights & would sometimes get woken up as he left! Good luck with your rebuild.

Guess I walked into that one, but I probably could`nt have resisted it either! As I`ve not seen a stock 860 piston its kind of difficult to compare, but looking at photos I`d say that the skirt is shorter & there is more of a dome than standard. The dome is also asymetrical with a shamfered side...

Cosworth pistons?

I am pulling down a 75 860GTS engine & have just got the front piston out. Inside it is marked DM0031 & COSWORTH, etched onto the gudgeon pin boss is PA0493/1. Any ideas as to what I`m dealing with? Bore size is 86.8mm & I think it`s forged.

Finally got to the garage & started dismantling; first good news was loads of decent oil & no water. The clutch looks brand new with no wear on the basket, unmarked bores at 86.6mm & good pistons. Both heads have what looks to be a welded repair to the exhaust thread, also welded up are ...
