Pistons

I haven't been on here for a while, as I have been concentrating on a new business venture, that at present doesn't involve Ducati's at present. Anyway I decided to check over my 500 Sport Desmo to try and find out why I appeared to be suffering from crankcase pressurization and attendant oil leaks....

Re: Pressing a V Twin crank

Part of the problem is that both engines have been standing for many years. In the case of the 900GTS the last road tax shows as being the end of 86! I am looking to split to check the condition of the rods, bearings and pin more than anything. Cleaning out all of the muck is something to do whilst ...

Re: Sprocket size?

My 250 Diana runs really nicely on 17/45, which I find as a good starting point for 250/350 bikes.

Pressing a V Twin crank

Guys, I am hoping that smeone may be able to answer the above question. It looks like I am going to end up stripping and cleaning out a pair of 860 cranks in the near future and I was wondering how big a press I am going to need to press the flywheels off the big end pin? I have a 10 Ton one and hav...

I have one up the back of the garage. I will try and dig it out and then post a photo for you.

Re: Electrics on a barn find...pics included...

Most of the later singles from about 1965 onwards have the later type of 70w generator which will allow you to convert to 12v. These have two yellow wires coming from the generator - put a meter on them set to AC and if you have got at least 13.5 volts you can run a 12v system. You will need to chan...

Oil Filter - news

Got a call from fellow twin owner Ian on Sunday and he has got confirmation that the manufacturer of the oil filter for the parrallel twin engine has ceased manufacture now - there will be no more. I am sure that people like Giovani in Holland will have some NOS ones for a while, but that is a finit...

Condensor values

Well it has got to that time, when I need to move onto modern condensors and ditch using NOS or old fashioned Mini condensors. The NOS ones appear to be dried out and dont last more than about 2000 miles and the modern replacement Mini ones are just of such poor quality you need to carry a couple of...

Assuming that it still has the Desamo head fitted, it should be a standard RT cam. The only way to tell is use a degree wheel and measure opening, closing and lift.

Bob, Ended up showing it as a static display at the Silverstone event and then tucked it away in the garage again. I saw something on the Bevelheads list about the values of capacitors for AC & DC ignition systems, but like a fool forgot to write the values down! Hope fully someone on hear may h...
