Re: Do I need to change valve seats for lead-free gas?

As Bill ..

Nope.

In fact, DON'T do it. Way, way, too many stories of it all going horribly wrong ...

(And me, I don't use any lead replacement additive either - not in my twin, not in my singles, not in my Laverdas. And I've had no valve recession in +/- 100,000 km).

Just saying ... :-D

Re: Clutch basket bearings.

I really mean part 30 with the two bearings in it. I have replaced these with new ones and refitted the thrust washer, basket, drum, tab washer and tightened the centre nut to correct torque. Holding the basket I can rock it and see it move independently of the drum, I am not turning it but pulling...

Re: Clutch basket bearings.

Hi Chas, Can you just please clarify which piece you're referring to? Clutch.jpg In the scan above, the "clutch drum" is item 34. But this has no bearings in it. It's a fixed non-rotating piece, splined on to the gearbox shaft. If this is rocking on its shaft, then you have wear in the splines. The ...

Re: Recomish Help for SSD

Hi and Welcome to the Forum.

I haven't got any stock photos and, to be honest, I'm a bit reluctant to go thru the faff of taking the seat and tank off! But if you can be a bit more precise, by all means come back to me ..

... but was it built in Spain? Frame number 51456 engine number 51363 Yes, Dave. 50*** is the frame sequence for 175TS built in Spain 1960-67. You should find that the frame number is preceded by "MD" = Mototrans Ducati. You may find it useful to hop over to the Ducati singles forum at Motoscrubs.c...

Re: Mille S2: Paint frame with homologation plate installed?

Hi Herb, A competent paint shop will be able to mask both and re-paint the frame without you or anyone else being able to see the difference. An incompetent paint shop, on the other hand ...  :( If you're in the States, call Steve (the owner of this site). He knows his way around a pain...

The big difference will be that they are not 8 years old... :-D . Yeah, that might help a bit :Uwin: ! If you want a wider range of tire choice, Malcolm, and you have FPS rims, you can always think of running tubeless. Big, sometimes passionate :*<: 8), debate about the wisdom of doing this...

Re: Led lamps in the Dashboard

Has anyone changed the bulbs in the dashboard to LED lamps? If so can anyone recommend where to buy the lamps? <snip> Yes, Hedton, it has been done (and it's easier to do these days than it used to be). I've had a quick look in my files, but unfortunately I can't find anything up to date with the i...

Re: Condor bevel drive 350 rebuild

I remember when taking it apart the LHS main crank bearing dropped out very easily. Trying the replacement bearing in the case, I can almost fit it fully in just by hand. Is this an issue? It's not great. It's generally considered better to NOT have a bearing spinning in the case ... ;) .* Tight, b...

Re: 860GT intake manifold: stuck

Still, the spacer/reducer will still not move; maybe I should just work elsewhere. Comments? These two pieces, Richard? If so: 860.jpg Yes, they do get stuck firmly together - it's not just you! - and you're right to proceed carefully. So as Bill said, a bit of heat and a soak in whatever easing oi...
