funny enough - the honda RR worked great - it was the starter solenoid that was leaking current and I figured this out when I was trying to start the bike at night and noticed all the sparks shooting out of it.... Unfortunately I've been through the wiring so much that at this point it doesn't resem...

500 gtl head gasket

I emailed you but I am going to post it here too... Not sure which part you are referring to. Is it 0620.88.095? If that's the case, many on this board say that it's an error because the gasket rings are built right into the head gasket. If you are referring to the circular metal rings that are stam...

more info

If I open the choke up during the dead spot, I get lots of power immediately. Also, if I open the choke as I accelerate, I get lots more power throughout the entire range of acceleration. I would think that my carbs are running lean. But with the needles on the nearest clip, am I out of options to r...

dead spot in carbys @ 5000 rpm

I have a 77 500 GTL with Dellorto PHF carbs. After cleaning, lubing, and balancing them multiple times per Steve's instructions, they seem to run excellent -- except for a dead spot at 5000 rpm. Going up a hill with full throttle at 5000 rpm it seems like they lose vacuum and have zero power - probl...

more RR problems...

So I purchased a honda 3-wire RR and connected it like this: Green to ground red to 12V+ end of the battery through a fuse black to a circuit that's switched on only when the bike is on 3 yellows to the three stator wires I always keep the battery on a trickle charger, and I noticed that after I ins...

honda cx500 RR

would you mind posting instructions? If it works on your bike I'll order an aftermarket honda cx500 regulator/rectifier and follow your instructions.

Motoplat alternator: 3-phase or single phase?

After a several year hiatus, I've decided to have another go at getting the Ugly Duc (77 500GTL) running. I need a regulator/rectifier for it and was wondering if the Motoplat alternator is 3-phase or single phase? The stator has 3 wires (two yellow, one red) and 6 coils. What aftermarket brands are...

stator woes - 500 GTL

My stator on my 500GTL is putting out maximum 20, 20, and 10 volts AC from its 3 wires, and these were measured where the wire exits the crankcase. So I guess my stator is shot. I found this out by using the website http://www.electrosport.com/Images/fault_finding.pdf suggested - very helpful! Anyon...

fram on my 500 GTL

I found the FRAM 6009 is smaller, but I think it still cranks down against the engine, no? There is the bolt with the pressure release valve that bolts the filter down to the engine. The oil flows through the holes in this bolt, through the filter, and into the reservoir around the filter, then out ...

no he doesn't list the gasket kit. steve will special order it from Athena for you. If you just need a few gaskets, let me know, since I have some extras. But you'll definitely need a head gasket, of which I don't have an extra. I actually have the 2 extra sets of the rings, since they were for a 4 ...

I just went to a machine shop, they measured the old rings and bought new ones for it. I think they're alfa romeo rings but I'm not sure. just finished a top end rebuilt of my 500 gtl this summer, had a blast doing it. make sure you get the right gasket kit from Steve, also there are no O-rings betw...

carbie sync - some basic questions about dellorto PHF carbs

OK, I got my PHF carbs rebuilt with Steve's kits. Since this is my first time working with carbs, I want to get some terminology straight. Slide screw: is this the same as the idle screw? Bigger one right in the middle of the carb with the spring on it, right? How do I tell if it's touching the slid...
