Re: Torque specs?

Torque specs I've always used on a 1968 MK3.

Head Bolts -25 ft/lb
Clutch Centre - 65 ft/lb
Bevel Gears - 35 ft/lb
Crank Drive Gear - 75 ft/lb

The engine on my bike has been apart numerous times as it's only used for racing.

Re: What type of oil should I use for my 1970 450 Scrambler

Excellent choice on Morris Lubricants. Really good stuff, I use the synthetic oil in my 250 racing bike and I can't speak too highly of it. I used their "R" in two stroke racing bikes years ago and always found it superior to the bigger names.

Re: Condor bevel drive 350 rebuild

Re. the sludge trap screw. Nigel Lacey sells ones with a hex. head (Allen bolt type) which makes these easier to put in and get out. If you decide to put one in remember to have it in place before balancing the crank. I know someone who didn't do this and had to strip his engine again when this was ...

Re: Oil leak (sprocket) and possible remedies

Yes it is quite common to get a leak behind the drive sprocket. The only way to stop it is to replace the bearing, which is a shielded/sealed one.

Re: Condor bevel drive 350 rebuild

You'll probably know this but make sure you clean the sludge trap out. You'll be amazed at the amount of junk that's ends up in there.

Re: timing dots

Mat, that's fine, the dots are lined up OK, there's nothing wrong there.

Re: Pulling the Head

Unless you plan on removing the camshaft there is no need to loosen the cam bolt before removing the head. Just turn the engine over to line up the dots on the cam bevel and the bevel shaft gears (behind the top bevel cover). Remove the head bolts and pull the head off. If you turn the engine over t...

Difference Between WC & NC Cylinder

Is there any difference between the cylinder of a widecase 250 and a narrowcase 250?

Thanks. The tank is pretty old, I've had the bike nearly 20 years and I only think I've cleaned it out once and that was with soap and water. It's on a racing bike and I normally use a 50/50 mix of Avgas and premium. I've sometimes found a sticky residue on the carb if I use full race fuel and to be...

I'm going to use Caswell to seal a fibreglass tank on my 250. I've looked at the instructions on the website and it indicates using acetone to clean the tank out with. Is this safe for use on a fibreglass tank? If not what should I use? By the way, very, very nice bike. All restorations don't need t...

I read that you can compress the springs with tire irons, but I haven't tried it yet. Unfortunately that is a good way to butcher the cylinder head. I have seen several heads where tire irons/screw drivers have been used to compress the valva springs and they're not a pretty sight. Remember, it's n...

Wanted: 250 MK3 Rockers

Has anyone got any rockers for a 250 MK3? Preferably in good condition, hopefully in near-perfect condition :-D for my racer. I'm in the US.

Sounds like the seal on the bearing has blown. The only way I know to fix that is to replace it.
