Good question! I had a spare dual output 3 ohm (they're usually sold in pairs) so that's why I used a 3 ohm with the ballast resistor. Same result, just using what I had to hand! The 5 ohm would be fine I'm sure.

5ohm good without ballast resistors; I have 3ohm dyna plus 1.5ohm ballast with a Rita on my SS; with 3ohm alone the coil burnt out after 3000miles

still, based on my conversations with Dyna and especially Mistral, I'd recommend chucking either 4.5ohm coil on or a 1.5ohm ballast with a 3phm. It doesn't harm anything but will almost certainly extend the life of the coil. (I used to think that the lower resistance on the coil the better for spark...

Good! What's the resistance of the coil you're using? The green dyna is 3ohm and it's probably to low. After much discussion with Mistral and Dyna I ended up putting a 1.5 ohm (I think) ballast resistor in series with it and it's been fine for starting and running. If the resistance of the coil is t...

I don't think Eurospares can help anymore. I've used (from the US and UK) the guy here both for spares and once for testing my unit: Mistral Engineering Unit 12 Taylors Gravel Lane Chigwell, Essex England IG7 6DQ +44 20 8501 2161 voice He's very helpful. In the end there was nothing wrong with the u...

Advance curve is stepped but not like the electronica system! (ie. more progressive) The coil I use is a Dyna green 3ohm dual output (DC1-1); but I had one fail and now I use the 3ohm green but with a 1.5ohm ballast resistor and it's fine (recommendation of the guy that services them at Mistral engi...

Rita works great; I have it on my 900SS. Keep the battery well charged as the Rita needs a batery in good condition and preferably >12.5V!

No; the O ring is about 1.5cm down in the guide from the top. If you have hte vlave out, yes you can see it.

Depends on head configuration, but simple O ring seal in a groove cut in the guide was the earlier practice, yes. Effective until it hardens. You have to have a lot of wear before guide sealing becomes a significant issue.

I wouldn't; for the best outcome fit new rings and hone.

Are you absolutely sure the leak is from the O rings in the head and not oil weeping out of the exhaust header at the nut? I had the same problem and my first diagnosis was the same as yours. After screwing around for a while I figured out (with help) that the leak was weeping from that place, with ...

I went for a plain nickel plate finish on the nuts. No significant polishing; still okk good after 5 years

For an international response to rings... when I lived in the US (three years ago) I had a smoky rear pot on my rebuilt '76 900SS. I had pulled the heads for inspection and just replaced them during the rebuild. @12000 miles. Bores were a bit scuffed, pistons same, both at the the outer end of toler...

He told me he was thinking AUD400 originally, but then with all the fleaBay action was seduced to thinking that a higher figure might be more appropriate. He said he'd fleaBay it. So hopefully it will reappear. He seemed a little highly strung when I PM'd him and took offence immediately at the offe...
