Re: Clearance between desmo opening rockers

Thanks for the response Ducadini... and just to be clear I'm meaning the clearance between the two opening rockers themselves and not the clearance between the rocker and side of a cam lobe. Fitting the cam without tightening it (just enough to compress the shims), then shim the closers, then the op...

Clearance between desmo opening rockers

As per the subject title - had anyone ever shimmed the opening rockers float for central contact on their respective valve stems and found the clearance between the rockers up near the cam is mighty close or even touching?

Re: 860GT Update

It is going to be a split the cases situation.
Oh.... that is a right royal pain. You do have my condolences.

Re: 860GT Update

The shaft in the photo does look to be off centre - is that because of the suspect bearing failure or just the angle the camera was at?

So will this have to be a split cases job to replace?

Re: Excellent ENGINE OIL TEST COMPARISON resource

Ooo er.... oil threads are dangerous territory.... :-D Kara, yes when I was researching what oil to use I came across a Norton thread that (I think) contained pretty much the same information as on the page you refer to. Here's a link to your page which is a much better precis of all that informatio...

Re: Smoking under acceleration - valve guides.

I found the easiest way to fit the o rings was to insert the valve into the guide from the bottom until the top of the stem is level with the bottom of the groove and hold it there. You can then fold and push the lubed o ring in using a blunt shaft and it'll pretty much pop into the groove of its ow...

Re: 860 GT Jacking Point under crankcase

Here are a couple of bits of wood and threaded bar that have proved to be real useful. One for under the engine and the other for mounting a cylinder head on to allow it to worked on in the comfort of ones own home. Possibly on the dining room table ho hum... :-D The difficulty I have found with the...

Re: Smoking under acceleration - valve guides

Ducadini, yes that's correct only the exhausts were upgraded to the later guides with the inlets remaining as the older O ring type. And as you say great care must be taken to not cut off a little bit of the O ring when re-inserting the valve stem. I used plenty of lube and a pressing twisting movem...

Re: Smoking under acceleration.

Well.... ain't it an arse when reality disproves a theory. With the old oil pump fitted it's still smoking and just revving him up on the stand it actually seemed worse!! I quickly whipped off the rear carb and again there was plenty of oil in the manifold and also a drip was seen on the outside of ...

Re: bosch ignition pickup tool Q

I went the Sacshe route; a little expensive but very easy to install and set-up
Yep, same here & I agree completely. Real easy to set up, allows real easy starting and a lovely smooth ignition curve with no sudden jumps in advance. Choice of curves too.

Re: Smoking under acceleration.

Again thanks for all the replies guys - it helps clear ones thoughts when brain storming... Did a previous owner use some RS bearings on the camshaft-bevel side ? that could prevent/decrease oil flowing to the bevels and raising the level in the head. You say the guide on the inlet are (original) O-...

Re: Smoking under acceleration.

Thanks Craig. Your advice is always welcome and appreciated. Blue smoke under acceleration is normally rings, sad to say, Andy ... I agree but what I don't understand is why there is oil in the rear cylinder's inlet manifold? But first check the engine breather is working. (I admit I don't understan...

Smoking under acceleration - valve guides.

I'd be grateful for any input people would have on a smoking issue I have with a Darmah after a top end rebuild. The motor fired up fine on it's first attempt with no or a little smoking but after a gentle 5 mile shake down run oil was seen seeping from the rear exhaust collar. Further investigation...

From here*, I see that the dimensions (ID followed by x-section) for OR 2031 are 7.65 x 1.78. But I cannot find OR 107 referenced either by this source, or anywhere else. So maybe OR 107 is no longer produced ...? * http://www.argotmf.com/pdf/oring/OR_NWLIS.pdf Well I've just found a reference that...

front_exhaust.jpg
And here's the front exhaust - massive contrast with the camera light but it does better show the shadow in the lee side of the guide where the oil residue hasn't settled. You can also see the deposit on the guide.
