Re: Wheel surprises

Good work. That is certainly not the original front hub. Nice upgrade on the disk just too back the spacers were hacked.Good thing that you found the problem and fixed it correctly. You'll never have to worry about it for a long time.

Re: no one run Pirelli Phantoms?

The Phantom was a good tire in it's day. I had a set on my SS. It has Dunlop GTs but they are old and the bike is off the road. I'm currently running Bridgestone BT45 on my 750GT. Avons are also a popular pick.

Re: Frame material

In theory, AQ45 is a CrMo steel. If you have ever picked up a vintage ducati frame you would swear it was cast iron sewer pipe.

Re: Request for assistance - 750S with electronic ignition

The Sachse ignition is sensitive to the quality of the electricity given to it. I had spoke with Volker before he died because I had fried the new ignition on my 750. He stated that the old voltage regulators allow voltage spikes and highly recommended installing a modern voltage regulator. He said ...

Richard,
Just an FYI but Syd's Cycles is in your neck of the woods and Malcolme knows his stuff.

Re: Rotating cams during desmo valve adjustment

I have found that these old desmo cams are not really ground concentric. I always do my valves on the bench. When setting the closer rocker I always rotate the cam to find the tight spot and use that as the point of adjustment. It is much easier to do if you remove the helper spring before setting t...

Re: 860GT flywheel pinion washers

The"washers in question, 0755-47-050/060 are the crank/main bearing shims. They are shown on the "nut" end of the crank to let one know they belong only on the left side of the crank.

Re: Cylinder base gasket - 900 bevels.

An alloy gasket? Sounds to me as if someone was trying to reduce the compression for easier starting. Only other explanation may be the bevel shafts were replaced at some point and possibly mis-matched and too long?

Re: 860GT ignition timing

I am quite certain the Sachse ignition is also a "wasted spark" as it fires with every revolution of the crank. It is a very good unit but be sure to upgrade your voltage regulator as well. The Sachse does not like voltage spikes and a 40 year old regulator will probably fry the Sachse.

Re: Lower bevel gear spindle shimming - Darmah

Not too sure that the shims are the same I.D. on either end of the spindle. Off the top o my head, the inner ones are smaller. A good shim source is McMaster-Carr or perhaps any of the shops/suppliers that work on old Ducs.

Re: Lower bevel gear spindle shimming - Darmah

Hello All, Been awhile since I followed the forum. I have been asked my opinion on this shimming question. Before doing so I want to point out that these are my thoughts and nothing more. I make no claim on expertise. This is just the way I do it. First off, I have never found a Ducati manual that w...

860/900 cranks

Sorry but the primary drive side of the Ducati Elctronica ignition crank is quite different to the Bosch ignition crank. You would have to make up an adaptor bush to fit the primary gear and run a different ignition such as a RITA that is driven off the cam.
