Noisy 3rd and 5th Gear 750 GT

Hi I am looking at replacing the 3rd and 5th gears on my 1974 750 GT as they are very noisy when riding. Is there anything else I should consider when replacing these gears? I have also heard that these two gears can be noisy, will the noise reduce if I go to the trouble of replacing them? Many Than...

Dropped Value seat

Hi having a cracked head is not correct, as I have had a front value seat drop as well, there were no crakes found.
It seems to be a heat problem with the heads and seats. I would still like to find out more information on this problem and how to fix.

value seat dropped

Hi, I have a problem with my rear cylinder exhaust value seat has just dropped. My bike is a 1974 750 GT and I have heard this was a major problem with the 860 motors.
Does anyone have any information on how to fix and prevent this form happening again?

Hi I don’t how the oil can be coming out from the spines on the sleeve gear, the way I see it is the system is set up via a sleeve which is pressured up between the inner and outer oil seal (the sleeve should not be scored or you should replace) then the way to stop the oil leaking from this point i...

Oil leak from front drive sprocket 750 GT

I have a problem with oil leaking form my front drive sprocket, I have replaced the two outer seals and had a new sleeve machined up that goes in behind the sprocket against the main seal. All is fine with no oil leaks, as I know the sprocket nut has to be tight to form the seal. My problem is that ...

Filter woes

I am also looking around for a new filter, as my one is, case to end of filter, 174mm long, and the shorter ones just do not reach? Gowanloch Motorcycles say they can supply hand made item, crafted from aircraft alloy, around the AUD $235 price. I will try and post a photo of the two different sizes...

Re Cylinder Head Gasket

Hi Thanks for your input, and I can now see your point if the gasket is not broken.
I have been told that a new gasket would be best and there would be no need for sealant with the new gasket, also been told there would be no need to remove the carbon on the piston crown when replacing the gasket..

Gasket Replacement

Hi I will order some new gaskets soon, some questions, to remove the barrel do I need to remove the carbon from the piston crown and is it best to remove the piston and rings from the barrel or try not to disturb the rings and remove the gudeon pin keeping the piston just inside the barrel. Also do ...

Cylinder Head Gasket

Hi I just removed my front head to fix the exhaust flange thread, and I have loosened the barrel slightly on the cylinder gasket, the gasket has not broken, although some oil did run out the bottom. My question is can I just leave the gasket and tighten the head down again, or is it beast to try and...

My Reply

Hi That’s interesting when I take it up to the peak that the Parzon ignition system states it at full advance, which from what I can make out from their manual is 3500 rpm at 36 BTDC, the strobe is reading below, and it is not till I take the motor up to 4000 rpm that it goes up by about a deg then ...

Pazon Smart Fire

I have just fitted a Pazon Smart Fire ignition system on my 74 750 GT and strobe timed it to around the recommended 36 BTDC. Also retuned the carburetors for best tick over. My Question is when I first turn on the key and attempt to kick start my bike, there is a very vicious kick back from just tou...

Exhaust Nut Thread Repair

HI Russ I would like to know more if you can tell me about this type of repair as I live in New Zealand and would not like to send my front head overseas for repairs. I have talked to my engineer and he is not sure if there would be enough meat around that area to be able to sleeve the head. Anyway ...
