Thoughts please

Hi all, I acquired my late brothers 2 Ducati's, back in 2016. One is a 1980 Darmah SD, the other is a 78 SS. They were both in a sorry state, but I got his old Darmah up and running/mot'd, for a rememberance get together a year later. To do this I had to strip the engine, replace the oil pump (£400)...

Re: Grounding Engine

Wdietz, It worked, the insulation going into the engine case was cracked, under the external insulation! It's a year since the passing of my brother, (who's Darmah I have just restored) and at the weekend we got together where we used to camp, family and old friends for a 'Dave Fest'. I'm sure you w...

Re: Grounding Engine

Ok thanks for that wdietz, I will try that later as earthing the engine made no difference. The spark on the rear cylinder does appear to be weaker.

Re: Grounding Engine

Hi Steve, could that account for having a weak spark on the rear cylinder. (rear cylinder cooler) I have checked the resistances all through, including coils, pick ups, resistors, all reading fine. The bike is intermittently popping and banging, makes no difference with the lights on, but hates full...

Re: Right hand casing getting hot

Cheers Steve. I think my real concern was that I fitted a high volume oil pump which is obviously behind that casing and the bevel gears. When I first bolted it down it went tight, it seemed like the impellor was not flush with the housing and was pushing on the gasket/engine casing. I relieved the ...

Re: Right hand casing getting hot

Cheers wdietz, yes I guess I am being cautious, too much money spent already! I suppose the down pipe theory could be a possible cause, think the charge side is fine, I will keep a close eye on it. Thanks again for your thoughts, Paul.

Right hand casing getting hot

Hi all, just taken the Darmah for its first run out, after an almost complete rebuild, (not bottom end) It seems to be running fine, but when I started it up, I noticed that the right hand casing got hot after a few minites, when the rest of the engine was just warm. (I had to put a new oil pump on ...

Re: Piston ring placement

Cheers again wdietz, the reason I mentioned engine rotation, was so I could determine the thrust side. I will put it in gear and see what way the sprocket turns!

Piston ring placement

Hi all, can anyone advise me on the ring gap positions, for both pots, (not sure of engine rotation).
Thanks, Paul

Over size valve guides?

Hi all, sorry if repeated, but cant find answers. A few questions. Is it necessary to order oversize guides, even if present ones are a tight fit? Should there be any end float on rockers? And lastly for now, there was a metal ring/shoulder on each of the fork stations below the bottom yokes, that I...

Cheers Bern, I have ridden them both in my time, and do remember the SS being much fun, but can't wait to get them both up and running.

The new owner

Hi all, I sadly lost a brother this year. In his garage was his old Darmah that he must have had since he was about19/20, and a 1979 900ss, that he had bought later in his life. Both have been sitting for maybe 10 years, and are both looking quite tired. I have started on the Darmah, stripped down, ...
