I took it to my nuts and bolts guy today, who ID'd it as M12 x1.5, which is a fine metric thread -as opposed to coarse. I'd tried to get a M12x1.75 to fit.

Re: S2 rear footpeg: what thread?
UNF 7/16, well fan my brow! I thought it might have been some weird Italian metric, like they used in the 60s. I will try UNF7/16.
Thank you my friend, much appreciated.

S2 rear footpeg: what thread?
This is the bolt, part of the rear footpeg, that holds the muffler on. What thread is it? It looks like standard metric M12 but I've a standard nut of that size that won't screw on to the thread. If anyone knows I'd be grateful.

Black 900SS swing arm: color?
I've got a 900S2 that the previous owner turned into a replica of a 900SS, one of the black ones. It has a chrome, and now somewhat pitted, swing arm. The question is: what was the original surface treatment for swing arm on one of these: black or chrome?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: Fuel pouring from carby
Hi Steve,
that guide is great, thanks. I pulled both carbs apart, used an u/sonic bath to clean up, reassembled. Starts and runs perfectly now.

Re: Fuel pouring from carby
I'm happy to use u/sonic, as I have access to one. If anyone can point me towards a good guide on disassembly and cleaning of PHM40s, I'd be grateful.
It starts and runs on both, but like a dog, backfiring, etc.
Thanks

Re: Fuel pouring from carby
The (white) float on the front carby was full of fuel, so I tried replacing it with a spare black float I had, but it seems they're not compatible, even tho' both are from PHM40s. So now I got a new white float, and fuel no longer pours from the carby. Starts and runs, but on 1 cylinder only: the ba...

WTB fiberglass rear guard 900SS
I think it's the same part for 1977-82.
Someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

Fuel pouring from carby
I'd like advice from the group. My 1982 900S2 has sat around for some years, and today when I tried to start it, on turning on the fuel, it poured out of the RHS carby. It had a pair of brand-new Dell Ortos about 2 yrs ago, hardly run since. Turned out the float was half full of petrol. I put in a f...

Re: S2 won't start.
Hi Craig, All good to know. Steve has pretty good prices for a complete PHM but just a slide is $80. I have no idea how many miles the bike has done. I got it 3 yrs ago and the speedo shows 26,000 miles. Could be any mileage. I'm thinking that I might save myself a lot of trouble just by buying a ne...

Re: S2 won't start.
to be fair to my local duke shop, they told me last year that the carbs need replacing, because of wear; it wasn't in response to this failure to start.Craig in France wrote: ↑Sat Nov 04, 2017 1:16 am If it was me, I'd look at the carbs. You don't need new ones .

Re: S2 won't start.
OK, thanks, I'll get the carbies cleaned. The suggestion about the carbs being clogged sounds about right to me.

S2 won't start.
The S2 has been sitting for about a year, so before trying to start it I went through the following: i) drained tank and both float chambers and put in 10L of fresh 98 octane. ii) replaced front needle and seat (was leaking). iii) cleaned plugs, altho' the BP6HS plugs look nice. iv) charged the batt...
