Re: Won't idle
Hello George - First I apologize for not posting the final outcome sooner. Second - I failed to learn from past experience with my Norton. I assumed that the carbs were jetted properly since the bike once ran and had 14K miles on it. I found out what the jetting was supposed to be, compared to mine ...

Re: 1981 Darmah - Carb Mods - FWIW
Well - the parts are installed. Between a new job, the holidays and generally lousy weather, I have not had a chance to ride it yet. But, if the way it starts and runs initially is any indication, I think a big improvement has been made. It runs MUCH better so far. :-D If I get a dry weekend above 4...

Re: 1981 Darmah - Carb Mods - FWIW
Thanks Craig. After more discussion and thought I am going to try the following:
Idle jets = 62
Needle = K6
Atomizer = 265
I am going to stick with the 50-3 slides that it came with. Hopefully this combination will reduce this drastic lean condition down low. I'll let you know what happens. Thanks

Re: 1981 Darmah - Carb Mods - FWIW
Hello GT3707 - I know it's been 2 years since this post. I just finished my first bevelhead - also a 1981 900 Darmah SD. I've only ridden it once, and it is exhibiting all the same symptoms yours did. I just tore the carbs back apart to see what was in them. I assumed they were right, obviously a mi...

Re: Won't idle
Well now I have ridden the bike. Only did a short run around the neighborhood, about 5 miles. That's enough to put it through some turns and hit 70 MPH in places. What I found is the bike is running awful down low, under 3,000 RPM, but once above that it really takes off, pulls hard and sounds wonde...

Re: Won't idle
Well Gentlemen - After nearly 3 months I have finally figured out the problem (actually it was figured out for me). After returning from vacation I let the bike sit neglected while I tended to other issues on other bikes. Since I tried everything everyone said without success, I just ignored it for ...

Re: IGNITION MOD FOR FAST STARTING
Hello - I was told by a highly reputable Ducati Tech that I should remove the ballast resistors on my 81 Darmah. I am not finding anything here on the forum regarding that. Has anybody done/recommend this? My ignition system is entirely stock except for the replacement of the rotten pick up wires. I...

Re: Won't idle
Responding to a couple of previous posts: On both the mixture screw and idle screw, take the spring and slide it over the screw then slide on the washer then the appropriate o ring. The purpose of the washer is to keep the spring from gouging the o ring. I had a few minutes before leaving to work o...

Re: Won't idle
I will keep trying. Tonight I am supposed to be packing up to go on vacation, but maybe I can get a hour in the shop. I will lose 2 weekends of being able to work on the problem. I'd like to stay home 1 extra day or come home a day early but NOOOOOO. My wife doesn't understand me.

Re: Won't idle
Unless you have plenty of compression-a thumb in the plug hole will answer that question-do a quick check of valve timing.Maybe you're a tooth or two off or have sheared key somewhere..Quick-check the valve timing at TDC on overlap.Both valves/rockers should be open,and in about an equal amount. No...

Re: Won't idle
The symptoms you're describing are still consistent with an air leak on the intake side....you have checked idle screws have a washer fitted behind the o-rings, right? The other possible source of a leak is the manifold vacuum tuning screws...they need to be sealed properly. Kev Yes, there is a was...

Re: Won't idle
Yep. All new O-rings purchased in kits I got from you. One accelerator pump is working fine, the other not at all. Not saying you are wrong, and I will check it all again. Whatever I did wrong, I did on both carbs. I know it is something simple. I'll carefully reference the Dellorto exploded diagram...
